Assistant
Director of Financial Aid
Christopher Newport University invites applications
to fill the Assistant Director of Financial Aid position. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid
assists the Director of Financial Aid in administering the University’s public
need-based and non-need-based financial aid programs by taking necessary
actions to obtain federal, state, and private funds; insuring that all funds
are awarded in accordance with appropriate regulations; preparing required
reports of expenditures; calculating eligibility amounts; and making financial
aid awards.
This position requires a Master’s Degree in a
related field; or a Bachelor’s Degree plus demonstrated, directly related work
experience that equates to an advanced degree.
The successful candidate must have experience
in interpreting federal and state financial rules and regulations; experience
in managing and administering financial aid programs in a higher education
environment; experience in processing financial aid requests, determining
eligibility, and managing financial aid programs; demonstrated ability to work
harmoniously with a wide range of people, especially students and parents; strong organization, administrative, and interpersonal
communication skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong commitment to
customer satisfaction; strong computer skills to include the ability to use and
understand complex computer software programs and to understand and have the
ability to transmit and receive data electronically; ability to adapt to change
and to learn about and integrate specialized and/or upgraded software packages
utilized by the University; an understanding and appreciation of financial and
data management in a computer environment; the ability to work with precise
federal rules and regulations; and a working knowledge of word processing and
spreadsheet operations.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in computer-supported financial aid;
experience with Commonwealth of Virginia financial aid programs; knowledge of
SCT Banner Information Systems; and strong management skills with proven ability to
effectively supervise and motivate employees.

and sciences university of 5,000 students.
The campus is located between historic Colonial Williamsburg and the
ocean resort of Virginia Beach.
