Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse

 

Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse.  The NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse team at CNU is newly formed and will begin play in the 2006-2007 school year.  Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will support the successful development of student athletes both in the classroom and on the field by providing leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes.  This position is responsible for managing all aspects of CNU’s new men’s lacrosse program to include coaching, recruiting student athletes, practice organization, and arranging team travel. 

 

A Master’s degree in a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus training and experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree is required.  Significant and successful demonstrated head coaching experience at the collegiate level; knowledge and demonstrated experience with the National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations; demonstrated experience in team management; excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to travel and work non-traditional hours; and the ability to manage people and projects are required.  Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in recruiting successful student athletes consistent with NCAA guidelines; experience in fostering positive internal and external public relations; and experience in recognizing, supporting, and referring student athletes for needed academic and personal support.

 

CNU, a young, selective state-supported liberal arts and sciences university of 5,000 students, is located on the Virginia Peninsula between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. The young NCAA Division III program at CNU has become one of the most respected in the nation.  Our programs have produced athletes in major professional sports, 12 national team championships, and 500 All-Americans just since the 1980’s.  Since its beginnings in 1964 when a track and field program was started, the school’s athletic program has grown to 22 varsity sports for men and women.  Continued success has been enhanced by the opening of the 112,000 square foot Freeman Sports and Convocation Center and 3,250 seat Pomoco Stadium.
