You may elect this benefit only if you choose VRS retirement. This plan is paid for by Christopher Newport University and gives you short and long term disability insurance based on your number of years of state service. Christopher Newport University also offers UNUM long term disability plan through Colonial Life Insurance Company. The premium is based on the amount of coverage, your salary and your age. This is an employee paid premium. You should consider this coverage very carefully if you choose an Optional Retirement Plan as ORP’s do not have disability provisions. |
